MURDER, She Wrote

By: Mr. Period

Right now I'm torn. I really want to keep laughing at these memes but I'm also in a rush to put my thoughts into words after hearing what I just heard. Instead of tricking myself into thinking I can keep up with the speed of Hip-Hop, I rather hover along the outskirts until I hear something that's game changing. Shockingly that occurred today and even more shocking is who done it and who they done it to. I was already leaning towards writing a piece about the significance of what Fat Joe and Remy Ma were trying to accomplish with their new release. We've seen some nice collabo's from male/female mc's that have produced some memorable singles. Very few have dropped entire successful albums though. Judging by the first couple of tracks, things are definitely heading in the right direction. "All The Way Up" was an instant radio hit and once Hov blessed the remix it further extended its run. Their latest "Money Showers" is a no doubter. I'm almost a hundred percent sure once it peeks at number one, it'll spend a few weeks there. So yeah, that would have been a cool story but then SHeTHER happened.

First issue that needs to be addressed is this very important fact. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT NICKI MINAJ'S RESPONSE IS...FOREVER...PERIOD. Don't get me wrong, just like everybody else I was fully prepared to sit through a lengthy beef, tally up the highlights and determine a winner. To be honest I thought Remy could make it interesting but I figured Nicki's superstar status would just be too much to overcome. Remy Ma ended all possibilities of that ever transpiring when she unleashed the venom that is SHeTHER. So lets not even waste our time debating whether Nicki can recover or not. Miss me with all that good sportsmanship talk just because you want to give her the opportunity to redeem herself. Damn that, IT'S OVER. This has nothing to do with how nice Nicki is on the mic. I know she probably in the studio cooking up something right now worthy of another Grammy nomination. What I’m simply saying is, SO WHAT. Not that it would have helped but it's almost like she should have held on to those shots she fired earlier this week. Since the break up with Meek Mill I think we all been a little anxious to see just how she was going to reintroduce herself to the spotlight. After listening to her features on "Swalla" with Jason Derulo/ Ty Dolla Sign and "Make Love" with Gucci Mane, it was clear to me that she was back on her A game.  Not gone front, she had some killer punch lines that had me like "Ouuuuuuuu this finna be a good little battle." Ladies and gentlemen, I listened to those same lyrics today after hearing SHeTHER and was like, "It sound alright." Its like it almost never happened.

Now I didn't look for Nicki Minaj or her fans to tuck their tail and go peacefully into the night. In fact it went sorta like I expected. Her loyalists quickly dismissed the track and Nicki tried to play the cocky role and sneak in a few quick jabs. Except them jabs missed wide right. See when you experience massive trauma such as this it's best you just pause for a second. Gather your thoughts before you say or do something stupid that could only increase the swelling. Clearly neither her nor the Barbz saw it that way. Right off the back, she hit the social media streets looking for help.

Why feel the need to bring up what all you done for somebody's career in an attempt to press a confession out of him? Which he did in an Instagram post. Joke killer slash sucker move in my opinion. Anyway that was the actions of a person who's confidence has been shaken. The next blunder was to try to conceal her pumpkin head behind analytical statistics. Record sells, plaques and chart placement on any other occasion might would have been a valid point but that argument doesn't pack the same punch considering the circumstances. Its like she trying to put a band-aid on a nose bleed. Not only is it not working but you looking mad silly in the process.  I guess she thought her next post was going to be a drop the mic moment but....crickets. Once again she tries to convince us that the hole in the side of her head is just a flesh wound but this time she brought a co-signer. That was a cool little video montage of you and Beyonce complete with the sweet voice of B proclaiming you as queen. That's top shelf right there. After all we definitely respect B's musical opinion. Its just that one small detail. Beyonce doesn't get to decide who the queen of rap is.

Surprise, surprise the Barbz are in denial. I understand that Nicki Minaj may be a role model to some of you. She's certainly accomplished enough over the course of her career to deserve that admiration. But yall gone take this L. For some strange reason they don't even want to discuss SHeTHER. Instead they prefer to talk about everything that happened before that. The level headed ones posted comments that mostly centered around how big of a star Nicki is. Then of course you got the cape crusaders who insist on putting their EBT card in. Some of that old fifth grade lunchroom "Stop talking bout my friend" clap backs. "Nicki is prettier", "Remy Ma's a man", and "Nicki need to talk about her miscarriage." Yeah whatever. On top of that they were all in the room every time Nicki had sex so they know exactly what her body count is. Funny part about it all is that they really think we care if any of the many low blows Remy dished out is true or not. That's irrelevant at this point and any other argument they want to use to breath life back into this beef.  When it comes to situations like this I think Charlamagne's ratchet and righteousphilosophy fits perfectly. "No one cares about the truth if the lie is more entertaining."  Seems like they want to bring up everything but the kitchen sink. The kitchen sink that we just witnessed Nicki's career go down the drain of. That kitchen sink being THEM BARS!!!!!

Since the smart ones amongst us have already chalked this up as a close casket ceremony. Lets go ahead and heap hella praise on these bars Remy Ma just gift wrapped to the culture. It's such a master piece it's almost seems unjust to even dissect it. Its like a story that must only be told in its entirety or you'll depreciate its value. After listening to it, the first thing that came to my mind was: BREAK YOSELF. Seriously, no exaggeration because that's how unremorsefully raw Remy Ma was spitting them punch lines out. Stripped her but booty naked in the middle of Times Square. Anything Nicki Minaj thought she would be able to cling to, when the smoke cleared, it was gone. Remy Ma left her no wiggle room. She carefully shattered all her comfort zones. Oh you want to hide behind your song catalog and your alliances. NOPE. Oh you thought your money and your good looks was going to keep you propped up in the clutch huh? Remy was having none of that. She didn't even let her keep her "Black Girls Rock" status. Remy ripped that from her mid verse when she referenced the surgeries and the negative influence Nicki was having on black girls.  I want to quote a few lines from SHeTHER but I’m honestly having a hard time choosing one. That alone is a very bad sign, especially bad when the track is seven minutes long.  Just for the hell of it lets just close our eyes and randomly pick a couple.

"BUT BEFORE THEBUTT JOB, YOU WAS SPONGEBOB                                                                        SUCKING COCK FOR RECORDS, CAPTAIN OF THE CUM SQUAD"

Not a whole lot of mystery to the message she wanted to portray there but that can be said about the majority of SHeTHER. Simple and self explanatory but yet so beautifully orchestrated you almost want to bow your head when you listen to it. From start to finish, it was jaw dropping and downright disrespectful. Even when she stopped rapping and started just talking it was still brutal.

What I’m interested to see now is where people begin to rank this as far as one of the best diss tracks of all time is concerned. For me it ranks pretty high. With no hesitation I can easily put this in the top five. I say that because in all my years of listening to rap I've never seen David slew Goliath in the way Remy Ma bodied Nicki Minaj. I don't hear too many people saying it but in my opinion this was a 50 cent/JaRule type of kill shot. You can say I'm overreacting, a prisoner of the moment, and any other synonym you could think of to help Nicki save face but I know what I heard. Of course they'll be some resistance. Maybe a few Hip-Hop heavyweights that'll be somewhat reluctant to officially hand Remy Ma the crown based off of one song. Which is understandable to a certain extent. On the flip side of that, Remy did do enough to put that crown back up for grabs while simultaneously placing herself in prime position for the takeover.
